Many works from the Cultural Revolution feature the Chairman alongside the philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels as well as the Soviet leaders Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin; this grouping essentially solidifies Mao’s position within the Communist pantheon, especially since Mao thought of himself as Stalin’s counterpart.
