Liu Yingjun

Liu Yingjun, nicknamed the “Locomotive” for his energy and for his tireless study of Lei Feng, was a soldier in the People’s Liberation Army. During a training exercise in 1966, Liu rode the leading horse team pulling a cannon. His horse was spooked by the honking of a passing bus and threatened to trample some nearby children. Liu reigned in the horse and saved the children, but suffered fatal injuries in the process.
